WE HAVE UPDATED OUR WEBSITE CONTINUE CHECKING BACK FOR NEWS

Do you want to be more involved? Are there things you see in the community that you think the Local should be involved in? Have you heard about our committees? Local 1088 has an active Community Outreach committee that holds food drives, toiletry drives and other charitable actions. Our Social Committee plans the Local's social events. If you are a party person come help us plan. Are you interested in Social Justice? Our Women's and Equity Committee or our Human Rights committee may be the one for you.

Recently we were made aware of an infestation at 100 Water St. The building was overrun with mice, fleas and other pests creating a dangerous work condition for our members. Local 1088 coordinated with other unions to grieve the situation. Our members are in the process of being made whole for any injury they incurred and the building has been closed. All employees at the site are being relocated. Great work by all involved.

Tired of DC politics as usual?  Help Andy Kim replace Tom MacArthur (yeah that guy who wrote a bill to destroy healthcare for Americans and who sides with the politicians trying to destroy Social Security/Medicare.)  Every Saturday starting at 8:30, CWA Local 1088 will host Labor walks for Andy Kim.  Stop by the office, grab some breakfast, download an app/take some paperwork and be on your way to helping working class America reclaim DC!

So you're retired and looking to be involved? You can join CWA's retired members council by simply filling out an application and mailing it/dropping it off to our office, CWA Local 1088, 35 Beaverson Blvd Unit 3C Brick NJ 08723.  We will cover the $25 application expense and your membership in the retired members council is a lifetime membership! Once we have a sufficent number of retired members council members, we can form a chapter right here!

We will be holding our monthly membership meeting on Monday, October 15, 2018  5:30 pm at the office (35 Beaverson Blvd Unit 3C Brick NJ 08723.)  Up for discussion are the following issues:

Committee projects- Social event, community outreach, political events
Workplace health/safety issues
Discipline/Grievance Trends
Negotiations

Hope to see you there!

2 days away from deadline and we still do not have a budget.  There are proposals and counterproposals, but nothing too promising.  This affects every single public sector employee that we represent as legislators have been making threats to pension and healthcare benefits.  You can still call your legislators at 609-400-4763 and tell them to support a fiscally responsible budget.

Also if you missed the NJ budget teletown call, you can listen here.  We will keep you up to date as the deadline approaches.

The US Supreme Court attempted to undermine the sustainability of Unions by issuing an unfavorable decision in Janus V. AFSCME; which held that forcing non-members to pay an agency fee for representation violated their 1st Amendment rights.  This was a well-funded attack, not conducted by those seeking to advance free speech, but by coprorate interests seeking to destabilize worker's rights.
